Here are a few printables for a preschool classroom that go along well with the book Happy Birthday Moon by Frank Ash! Also a nice add-in
to a moon or space themed unit.
Pages 3 and 4 are backlines to make a little book about what bear might seen in the sky. You can see this in the first picture below.
Page 5 and 6 are pocket chart extras. I have students match the pictures to the words.
Page 7 and 8 are printables to make Playdough Mats to match the story. The kids had fun making Bear and Moon a cake. They added candles
with the play-dough. They outlined the six. They gave Bear and
Moon hats to match the story. I included star cookie
cutters and other play dough toys to this center. Seen in second picture.
Page 9 and 10 are printables to make the God Bless the Moon craft seen in the third picture below. Black cardstock. With chalk draw
the moon on one side of the paper. Then add the poem in one
corner. Next add foil stars all around the moon. Finally, paint
the moon with a mixture of paint and flour. The flour gives the
paint texture and makes the moon feel lumpy when it dries!
Page 11 is a reference chart of the moons phases. Page 12 contains the four phases when I teach this to Preschool, we color the white part yellow to show where the sun is reflecting off the moon. It also
has then trace the words.
